OUT NOW: Windowledge As Starting Point

My composition Mary’s Song features on Freda D’Szousa’s compilation ‘Windowledge, as a Starting Point’, a booklet and 13-track digital album, available now on Bandcamp.

(All proceeds will be donated to Medical Aid for Palestine.)

Last year, Freda put out an open call to their friends to create any type of artwork in response to their debut EP ‘Windowledge’. The result is this multi-media album, featuring remixes, original compositions, poetry and art.

When I wrote Mary’s Song I used Freda’s song He is my Peace as starting point. The line “He was a child in my arms” made me think about biblical Mary and how she may have felt watching Jesus on the cross (it was Easter time…). The resulting composition, featuring layers of acoustic guitar, vocals and field recordings, talks about loss, female grief, and faith. Lyrics available in the booklet.
