About

Lucy Lundström is the solo-project of UK-based Swedish musician, sound engineer and writer Gerda Lucy Rankka.

Inspired by fairytales, radio drama, and contemporary folk music, I like to use symbolic language, environmental sounds, and guitar-patterns to tell evocative stories. Unsure whether I am cynical or whimsical by nature, agnostic or religious at heart, I often ask myself if my work (which alternates between song-form, field-recordings and prose) is, well, a spiritual seeker’s documentation of the path to awakening, or, erm, a mad-woman’s futile attempt at imbuing cold matter with meaning. I explore the possibility that it is neither or, that the real revelation exists somewhere in-between. Music moves in waves – not stasis – my world is, at its best, fluid and non-binary.

Lucy studied Audio Engineering at Liljeholmens Folkhogskola (SWE) and Popular Music at Goldsmiths University (UK). Her previous work has been featured on BBC Radio 6, Astral Pierrot Radio Show, and Shindig! Magazine.
